The Song.
Like other songs on the “Love is Space” album, Deva Premal repeats the mantra unchanged many times before instrumental break, and the variety comes from extra sounds. This is a traditional form of mantra meditation, to go into the mantra deeply thru repetition. In addition, the instrumental is simple yet evocative. An excellent album, from as early as 2000.
Deva inserts a long om between each repetition of our mantra. In this form, the om can serve its primary purpose as a bridge from normal busy-ness of the mind to the focus and stillness of meditation.
Songs on “Love is Space” are at moderate pace. When we are familiar with the language of Sanskrit, then the meaning of each word will come to us quickly enough to understand each word at this moderate pace of singing. This takes practice : singing from the word sheet many times to expand our vocabulary.
I recommend you buy this album, for it has at least four good Kirtan songs : om shree sache, chidananda, jai radha madhav, om namo narayanaya. All these have –

The Mantra – Word for Word Meaning
The word for Deity or Presence in this mantra is atma (properly spelled ātma and pronounced aatma), which can mean “higher self”. When we are in our higher self, then the spiritual Qualities are strong, and the defilements weak. param can mean “fully restrored”, thus param atma can be the experience when the defilements are entirely absent, and the spiritual Qualities are very strong, so strong that we are radiant = shri (properly spelled shrī and pronounced shree) with these beautiful Qualities.
So the mantra can emphasise how strong = prabhu the spiritual Qualities can be when fully restored = mahā (mahaa). Also wishing ourselves success = je in developing the Qualities, until we are radiant = shri with them. Using our wisdom to be successful = ki-je. (ki = wisdom)
The song ends with the shanti mantra :
shānti (shaanti), shānti (shaanti), shānti (shaanti)
peace in our heart, peace in our social situation, and world peace.
